We Have Created Our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

We have created our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for Waterfront at Main Street. To successfully do this we need more volunteers from our neighborhood. If you are interested in serving please let us know. We can use full and part time people - if you are not here you don't help, and many of us travel a great deal and may be away when a disaster hits.

During a major disaster such as a hurricane
emergency services may be overwhelmed. We may have to take care of ourselves during the emergency. Lakewood Ranch has a very active CERT program and our Team would be part of the Lakewood Ranch CERT. Since so many of us travel, we are hoping to get 6 or more volunteers on our team so that we would likely have at least 3 volunteers present in case of a disaster. Remember, CERT would only be activated should a major disaster occur.

It is unlikely that we will be hit by a major disaster since our buildings are modern and built to withstand all major wind events. But our windows are rated to withstand a Category 4 hurricane, and we could get a Category 5.  And of course we could lose electricity, water pressure and communications and elevators. So all of us should individually prepare for disasters, and our CERT team will also prepare.

We will keep our information online at: https://waterfrontatmainstreet.blogspot.com/. The address is https://waterfrontatmainstreet.com/ fairly easy to remember - it is the same as our website except that it ends with .blogspot.com instead of .com

Contact Craighullinger@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer or if you would like more information. Thank you for your consideration

CERT Training

Thank you for your interest in Lakewood Ranch CERT

Why you are reading this email
In the past, you expressed interest in joining Lakewood Ranch CERT. Thank you! Volunteers just like you are the reason we have been Neighbors Helping Neighbors since 2006.

As an all-resident, all-volunteer non-profit organization, LWR CERT counts on residents such as yourself to help our community become more resilient.
Learn Personal and Family Safety
Before becoming a volunteer member of LWR CERT, you are required to complete a 20-hour FEMA Basic Skills Training course, where you will learn to be prepared for disasters such as hurricanes, which can hit our area.

Upon completing Basic Training, you will receive a free backpack stocked full of vital first aid supplies, a water pack, helmet, googles, and a radio to keep at your home. You will also be assigned to a team of neighbors who have also completed training.
Basic Training held in Lakewood Ranch
For your convenience, the Basic Training course is offered several times each year right here in Lakewood Ranch. Classes are held at Lakewood Ranch Town Hall and the local fire station.

There is no cost for you to attend. Class size is limited to provide you with personalized instruction and time for hands-on practice.
As a resident in the CDD area of Lakewood Ranch, you qualify for exclusive, early-entry into our Basic Training courses.

If you are interested in joining LWR CERT, check your calendar and register for the Basic Training course below which best fits your schedule. Class sizes are limited, so we encourage you to register today to guarantee your seat.
